Happy Birthday Kevin and Alex

The boys are finally here!!!

What an exciting day. I can't even begin to explain the feelings that went on yesterday. Everything went well. And everybody is now relatively healthy.

Baby A ( now known as Kevin ) was breech so they had to do a c-section. The surgery went very well. The doctors came in a got Jamie around Noon yesterday. Then they made me sit and wait till almost 12:25 before they came to bring me into the operating room. Luckily Favre's press conference was on so that was able to take my mind off of things just a little bit. It felt like we were in surgery forever, but the boys were born at 12:31 and 12:32 so really it was less than 10 minutes. Then it took until about 12:45 to finish sewing Jamie back up and we were in the room to hear the lullabies played at 1Pm.

Kevin Joseph came first and is he bigger of the two. He is 6lbs 8oz and 19 1/4 inches long. Kevin spent all day with us yesterday. He was very good getting passed around all day and never got fussy. We let him sleep in the nursery overnight, and brought him back in the room today.

Alex James was 5 lbs 13 oz and 18 1/2 inches. He spent the first hour with us yesterday. Then when they checked his vitals his respiratory rate was a little high. So they took him to the nursery and he has not been back with us yet. He has had his oxygen level drop a little bit a few times throughout the evening yesterday. Then at 6:45 he had an episode where he turned blue and the oxygen level dropped very low. He was given some oxygen and has now recovered pretty well. He is still in the nursery though, because he has also been spitting up a lot. The nurses want to keep a close watch on him to make sure everything is ok. They did blood work and a couple of x-rays and everything came back good. So at this point we are just hoping that it is simply a transitional thing that he needs to adjust to his new world. We are hoping that Alex is able to at least come visit us sometime tonight. The nurses say that Alex is doing much better today than he was yesterday so thats a good sign. And we know he's in good hands in the nursery so I'm not going to push the issue...we'll leave it up to the doctors/nurses to decide when he's ready to come into the room.

Jamie's doing pretty good too. She was pretty nauseous all day yesterday. She got sick a few times, but by 6PM she was doing pretty good with that too. Today the anesthesia wore off so she's been in a bit of pain. They gave her some more pain medicine and she seams to be handling it well. She's sleeping now to try and catch up a little. Of course with a c-section she was being poked, prodded and tested all night long so she couldn't get a real good nights sleep.

As I finish writing this the nurse just came in and said that she was ready to bring Alex in for a visit. But Jamie is sleeping so I guess I'll wait a little bit longer so that she can be awake when they bring him in.

Since we have internet access in the room here I'll try to post pretty often in the next few days to keep everybody up to date on what's going on.
