First Night without the boys

Yesterday we went to dinner with Grandma and Papa. When we were done eating Grandma insisted that Kevin and Alex should spend the night at her house.

It was a really tough decision to let them go for the night, but after thinking about it for a while we decided it would be nice to get a little sleep. And boy were we right. Now that the boys are sleeping through the night I've been feeling a little less sleep deprived every day. Last night might have been the last little bit that I needed to get back to being a non-sleep deprived parent. Notice I said non-sleep deprived parent, as I know there is no such thing as a fully rested parent.

I thought I was going to have a lot of trouble sleeping last night, but it turned out that I was so in need of catching up on sleep that I fell asleep at 9 and didn't get up until 6:30. Jamie on the other hand did wake up a few times wondering about the boys, but I think she also got enough sleep to re-energize herself as well.

Grandma wasn't so lucky. Jamie and I have become so used the little noises the boys make at night that it doesn't phase us anymore. When they start making noises we just listen to the monitor for a couple minutes and we know right away whether or not they are going to fall back asleep. Of course Grandma isn't used to those noises. She heard Kevin sucking his thumb at 3:30, so she got up and made the boys bottles. By the time she was done making the bottles Kevin had fallen back asleep. Then at 4:45 Alex started making some noises, so she got up and did it again. And, yup you guessed it, Alex was back asleep by the time the bottles were ready. The boys finally got up them at 6:20. I never realized just how helpful it is to know the sounds the boys make. Now that the boys are sleeping through the night, if we didn't know the boys sounds we would be just like Grandma: not sleeping through the night even though the boys did.
